Enhancing the safety of +32k campuses through a mobile app

ABOUT

Transformation of an emergency management giant

Raptor is a custom emergency management solution for schools that’s trusted by over 32,000 campuses in the US to enhance personal safety (protecting almost 13,000,000 kids). Its mission is to protect every child, every school, every day. One of its many solutions is a mobile app that provides a set of tools for drills, evacuations, and the contacting of first responders and emergency contacts. We began working with Raptor for this specific project in November, 2019.

CHALLENGE

Creating a new solution bundle

After learning of different needs from its clients, Raptor decided to customize its software and give users the option to build their own solution packages. Raptor needed an experienced partner that could join the project with short notice and help with its digital transformation.

SOLUTION

Prioritizing features and getting to work

After selecting Uruit as its partner for the project, the first step we carried out was a Technical Discovery. This enabled us to explore the existing app and identify areas for improvement. Immediately afterward, our team started working on the new product roadmap that covered all the essential functionalities and “nice to haves”, based on a study Raptor conducted.

The main goal was to improve the user experience. The new app, built by Uruit with Xamarin.Forms, includes push notifications, a new chat system, refined profile customization options and overall, a better experience for their users. The team achieved a steady rhythm of work by incorporating Agile dynamics such as dailies, plannings, reviews, and demos. This allowed the Uruit engineers to stay connected with its in-house developers.

RESULTS

Launching a new app for school safety

The team is moving steadily towards the expected launch date. That won’t be the end of our partnership though, since there are plans to keep working on new functionalities and integrations, some proposed by the client and some that emerged from our developers’ studies.
